CHICAGO - The 2014 UIC men’s and women’s cross country schedule was released on Thursday morning by head coach Jim Knoedel. The UIC Home Opener will kick off the 2014 campaign, which is set for Saturday, August 30 at 10 a.m. CT. The Flames will be hosting the event at Lewis University in Romeoville.

“We are looking forward to another great season and these meets will help prepare us for the big ones at the end,” Knoedel said.

Following the home opener, the Flames will head to Normal, Ill. for the Illinois State Invitational, which is slotted for Friday, September 12 at 5 p.m. Two weeks later, the Flames will attend the COD Invitational in Warrenville, Ill. on Friday, September 26 at 4 p.m.

October begins with a meet up in Kenosha, Wis. for the UW-Parkside Invitational on Saturday, October 11 at 10 a.m. The Flames will close out competition in October with the Bradley Invitational in Peoria, Ill., which is set to take place Friday, October 17 at 4:30 p.m.

“The UW-Parkside Invitational will be a great chance to get on the course that we will be using for the Horizon League Championships,” Knoedel said. “I’m excited about the new course we will be running on for the Home Opener and look forward to competing against a couple of Horizon League schools.”

The 2014 Horizon League Championships will be hosted by UW-Parkside on Saturday, November 1 at 11 a.m. The NCAA Midwest Regional will be hosted by Bradley this year on Friday, November 14 at noon.

Last season the women’s cross country team took home second-place honors at the Horizon League Meet. Following her first-place finish at the meet, junior Tess Ehrhardt was named Horizon League Athlete of the Year. Her teammate, junior Rebecca Zaiter was also named to the All-League first-team.
