INDIANAPOLIS - Senior sprinter Anthony Hollingsworth, who won a trio of events in leading the UIC men's track & field team to the team title at last Friday's Benedictine Twilight, has been named the Horizon League Male Runner of the Week, per an announcement from League headquarters Tuesday afternoon.
Hollingsworth enjoyed a dominant individual performance in Lisle, finishing first in both the 100-meter (10.77 seconds) and 200-meter dash (21.88 seconds). The Riverdale, Ill., native also anchored the first-place 4x100 meter relay, which crossed the finish line in 41.48 seconds.
"Tony has worked so hard this past year both in the weight room and on the track, so it's nice that he has received this honor," said head coach Jim Knoedel. "His goal all along has been to be at the top step of the Horizon League and win, lose, or draw, he will do everything in his power to get there. Tony is one of the hardest workers on the team and has great respect from all his teammates. He will be a crucial factor in our team's success at the Horizon League meet."
Hollingsworth currently owns the Horizon League's second-best time in the 100-meter dash (10.56 seconds at the Chicagoland Championships) and the fifth-fastest mark in the 200-meter dash, which was set last Saturday.
Both the men's and women's teams will head to Ypsilanti, Mich., this weekend to compete in the Horizon League Outdoor Championships. Events are set to get underway on Friday, and will run through Sunday afternoon at Rynearson Stadium, the home to Eastern Michigan University football.
