Indianapolis, Ind. - Four of UIC's brightest student-athletes were named to the 2002-03 Winter Academic All-Horizon League Team.

Junior Joe Scharnak of the men's swimming and diving team was named to the team for the second-straight year, majoring in political science.

The other UIC honoress hail from the men's indoor track and field squad.

Jumper/sprinter Jon White (accounting) was honored on the team for the third consecutive season, while Rich Daubert (finance) and Danny Smith (teaching of english) also took honors for the second time in their careers.

The Winter Academic All-League Teams are selected by the Horizon League Sports Information Directors and Faculty Athletic Representatives. Nominees must meet the following criteria: 1) a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or better on a 4.00 scale; 2) have completed at least three semesters at the same institution; and 3) be a starter or significant contributor in a league-sponsored sport. The team is comprised of the same number of First Team All-Horizon League student-athletes in each sport. Ties are not broken.
