CHICAGO - The UIC men’s cross country team has been named a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Scholar Team.

The Flames boasted a 3.17 team GPA in the classroom this fall. UIC is one of 152 teams nationwide from 31 different conferences to earn the distinction. From the Horizon League, Butler and Loyola join the Flames as a 2010 All-Academic Team.

“I couldn’t be happier for our team,” said UIC head coach Jim Knoedel. “These guys have shown that you can be a great student-athlete, both in the classroom and in competition.”

Earlier this week, junior Brian Denk was named to the Fall Horizon League All-Academic Team. To read more about Denk’s accomplishment, please click here.

On the course, UIC finished third overall at the 2010 Horizon League Championships in October. Individually, Denk led the Flames with a third-place finish. In November, Denk ran 25th overall as UIC claimed 12th place at the NCAA Midwest Regional in Peoria, Ill.
