Savegnago Sets School Record At Iowa State Classic

Ames, Iowa - Competing in one of the premier indoor meets in the Midwest, senior Mike Savegnago set the school record in the heptathlon on Friday night as he placed third with a score of 5103 at the Iowa State Track and Field Classic. Mantas Silkauskas of Kent State placed first in the heptathlon with an NCAA Provisional score of 5406. Cliff Miller of Michigan State just edged out Savegnago for second, scoring a 5110. Savegnago took first in the pole vault in the seven-event competition, clearing the bar at 4.60m. He placed second in both the 60-meter dash (7.21) and shot put (12.37m), while coming in third in the high jump (1.90m) and 60-meter hurdles (8.68). Savegnago was fourth in the long jump (6.35m) and fifth in the 1,000-meter run (2:58.52). The rest of the UIC men's track and field team is competing on Saturday at the Chicagoland Championship hosted by the University of Chicago.
