    MILFORD, Mich. - The UIC men's cross country placed fourth while the women took fifth place at the 2009 Horizon League Championships, hosted by Detroit on Saturday.

    Matt Morse led the Flames with an 11th place finish, earning Second Team All-League honors, covering the 8k in 26:17.40 at Kensington Metroparks.

    Sam Kehoe earned All-League accolades as well, placing 14th in 26:28.30. Roger Pinon (16th), Brian Denk (25) and Nic Aubert (32nd) rounded out the Flames scorers for the fourth-place finish.

    On the women's side, Kristen Heckert finished in a time of 20:00.40 on the 5k course, finishing 18th to lead the Flames to their fifth-place finish. The young squad saw Megan Gojney (23rd), followed by Rosemary Gillam (26th) and Hannah Reilly (33rd) comprise UIC's scoring unit, besting Detroit, Wright State, Green Bay, Valparaiso and Cleveland State.

    Butler swept both the men's and women's team and individual titles, with Andy Baker crossing the tape in 25:15.6 to lead the Bulldogs to their 12th consecutive league crown. Lauren McKillop won the women's race in 18:48.3 for Butler's seventh title on the women's side in eight years.

     

     

    The cross country teams head to the NCAA Midwest regional, held in Springfield, Mo. on November 14th.
