Cross Country To Compete At Bradley Classic
Oct. 12, 2011
CHICAGO - The UIC men's and women's cross country teams are set to compete in the Bradley Classic Friday. The women's six- kilometer race begins at 4:20 p.m. (CT) and the men's eight-kilometer race begins at 5:00 p.m. (CT) at the Newman Golf Course in Peoria, Ill.
"This is a race we have traditionally done well at and judging by workouts this week I feel confident that we will run well," head coach Jim Knoedel says. "The Bradley Classic provides a good opportunity to see how things are going to stack up at the Horizon League Conference meet in two weeks."
The women's team looks to junior Tess Ehrhardt (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) to pace the Flames against the competition. Ehrhardt led the Flames and finished 38th in 18:43 at the Notre Dame Invitational on Sept. 30.
On the men's side, the team looks to senior Brian Denk (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South) to lead the team against Horizon League rivals Milwaukee and Green Bay. Denk finished in 18th place in 25:36 at the Notre Dame Invitational to lead the Flames.
UIC is running in the University Division. The women are part of a 21-team field, including Horizon League foes UW-Milwaukee, UW-Green Bay, Butler and Loyola. Bradley, St. Louis and Marquette are also included in the field. The men are running in a 19-team field that includes UW-Milwaukee, UW-Green Bay, Butler, Loyola, Western Illinois, and Iowa.
