    SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The UIC men's cross country placed eighth at the 2009 Notre Dame Invitational Friday afternoon.

    The Flames took eighth out of 21 teams with 232 points in the Gold race at the Notre Dame Golf Course in South Bend.

    UIC had a trio of underclassmen place in the top fifty of the 173-man field.

    Sophomore Matt Morse led the Flames with a 26th-place finish, completing the 8k course in 25:34. Roger Pinon placed 45th in 25:55, and was closely followed by Sam Kehoe in 49th with a 25:59 finish.

    In the women's race, freshmen Megan Gojney took the top slot with a time of 19:38 for a 92nd place finish on Friday.

    Junior Catalina Marquez and sophomore Stephanie Johnson both competed in the open race, with Marquez finishing 49th in 22:01 and Johnson came in 53rd at 22:31.

    Both teams return to action in Peoria, Ill. on Friday, October 16 for the Bradley Classic.
