Peoria, Ill. - UIC's men's and women's cross country teams had one thing on their mind when they traveled to the Bradley Open on Friday - improvement.

Flames' coach Jim Knoedel knows what kind of potential that both of his teams have and he did not feel that they were on display at the UIC Home Opener last weekend.

The men responded with sixth-place finish out of 13 teams while the women garnered 10th place out of 18 teams.

Sophomore Rich Daubert and freshman Jenni Goebel each led their respective teams for the second week in a row. Daubert placed 24th with a time of 26:13.46 while Goebel turned in a blazing time of 18:38.

"(Goebel) had a real nice performance," Knoedel said. "She beat many performers from Northwestern that beat her last weekend."

UIC assistant coach Jeremy Parks also participated in the race and finished third in the men's race with a time of 25:00.41.

"I was happy to see improvement on both sides," Knoedel said. "It was encouraging to see that last week's bad performance not get us down.

"But we still have a long way to go."
