Track And Field Closes Out Horizon League Championships.

Indianapolis, Ind. - Sophomore Jenni Goebel (Lombard, Ill./Willowbrook) captured her second Horizon League title in as many days as she won the 5,000-meter run title, on her way to being named the Most Outstanding Runner at the Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday afternoon. Goebel won the 5,000-meter run title with a time of 17:27.70, to go along with her meet record in the 10,000-meter run on Thursday afternoon as UIC placed fifth overall at the tournament with 56 points. UW-Milwaukee captured the women's title with 188 points, followed by Detroit (150), Youngstown State (126), Loyola (56.5), UIC (56), Butler (34.5), Wright State (9). The women's team also received title-winning performances from senior Monieka Thompson (Chicago, Ill./Steinmetz) and junior Amy Fehrman (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles). Thompson captured the 800-meter run title with a mark of 2:11.41, while Fehrman won the high jump title with a leap of 5-feet, 5 ¾ inches. UW-Milwaukee also won the men's title with 179 points, followed by Butler (162), Detroit (95), Loyola (88), Youngstown State (64) and UIC (23). Freshman Les Downing (Chicago, Ill./Holy Trinity) placed fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.28, while junior Jon White (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita) was fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 43-feet, 4 ½ inches.
UIC will be back in action on Saturday afternoon, as they will travel to Champaign to participate in the Illini Twilight, hosted by the University of Illinois at 4:00 PM.
