Men's Track and Field Finishes Sixth At Horizon League Championships

Indianapolis, Ind. - University of Illinois at Chicago throwing specialist Nick Gazis capped off an impressive spring campaign, as the Skokie, Ill., product turned in three top-five finishes, including a title in the discus, helping the Flames to a sixth-place finish at the 2004 Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Butler, on Friday afternoon. Gazis won the discus event by over seven feet, with a toss of 163'1", and picked up a fourth in the hammer throw (157'2") and a fifth-place finish in the shot put (43'9 ¼"). UW-Milwaukee won the overall title with 187 points, followed by Loyola (124 points), Youngstown State (115), Butler (90), Detroit (61) and UIC (39). Junior sprinter Gabe Rivera picked up a runner-up finish in the 100-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 11.24. Seniors Rich Daubert and Bob Thurnhoffer both earned fourth-place finishes in their respective events. Daubert turned in a season-best time of 3:53.52 in the 1,500-meter run, while Thurnhoffer tied a career-best with a leap of 21'10 in the long jump and 45'4 ½".
