LISLE, Ill. - The UIC men's track and field team is in third place entering the final day of competition at the 2009 Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships, held at Benedictine University.

The Flames currently sit in third place with 33 points, behind leaders Milwaukee (74) and Youngstown State (70). Butler (30), Valparaiso (24), Detroit (9) and Loyola (7) round out the eight-team field.

Mike Savegnago was a repeat champion in the decathlon, winning for the second season in a row with a final score of 5,932 points, well over 350 points over the league runner-up. Freshman Nate Kamm placed fourth with 4,920 effort in the ten-event competition.

Nic Aubert took sixth place in the 3k steeplechase in 9:46.58.

In the field event finals that took place on Saturday, Andy Wall was the high jump runner-up with a 1.97m performance. The junior would go on and placed fifth in the javelin throw in 45.46m.

There were little surprises in terms of athletes competing in the preliminaries in the track events, as the majority of Flames advanced to tomorrow's finals.

The final day of competition gets underway at 11 a.m. with the men's shot put final, with the first track event, the 4x100 relay kicking off at noon.
