First UIC Track and Field Invitational A Rousing Success
April 28, 2001
Chicago, Ill. - UIC track and field coach Jim Knoedel was worried that the end of the school year would prove to be a distraction for his squads at the UIC Invitational at St. Ignatius High School on Saturday. That notion was easily dismissed as both teams turned in solid performances and picked up three victories in the process. The men's team earned victories over Loyola (54-49), DePaul (57-38) and Chicago State (59-46) while dropping a 58-49 decision to defending Midwestern Collegiate Conference champions UW-Milwaukee. The women's team was equally as successful as they also picked up three wins on the day over Loyola (49-40), DePaul (54-37) and St. Francis (63-27). The Flames, however, did not fare as well against the likes of UW-Milwaukee (61-44) and Chicago State (66-41). The men's team received victories from their 4x100 Meter relay (43.0), Barry Somerville (110-meter hurdles, 14.97) and Neto Alexander (90-meter dash, 9.69) while Monieka Thompson (400-Meter Dash, 56.50) recorded the lone victory for the women's squad. Second place finishers for the Flames include: Jon White (triple jump, 42"4'), Chris Stanley (800-meter run, 1:56.28), Joe Kepinski (pole vault, 12"6'), Rich Daubert (3000-meter run, 8:45.82), Kelly Colangelo (shot put, 10.67m) and the women's 4x100 relay team (50.8).
Both teams will be back in action on Friday, May 4th as they will travel to Indianapolis, Indianapolis to participate in the Butler Twilight Invitational.
