April 20, 2001

Lawrence, Kansas - The 2001 Kansas Relays features 21 Olympians and 91 other elite athletes from the track and field community.

UIC senior Neto Alexander (Port-of-Spain, Trinidad/Queen's Royal College) proved on Friday that he can be considered an elite athlete.

Alexander coasted to a season-best time of 10.67 in the 100-Meter Dash, which was good for third-place in his heat. He placed eighth overall, which qualified him for Saturday's finals.

Alexander's classmate Barry Somerville (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles) also competed on Friday in the 400-Meter Intermediate Hurdles. Somerville finished third in his heat with a time of 53.51 and failed to qualify for the finals.

The Kansas Relays will resume on Saturday, April 21st at 8:00 a.m.
