Track & Field Takes Home Four Event Titles At Elmhurst Intercollegiate Invitational April 15, 2007
Elmhurst, Ill. - The UIC track and field team continued to thrive in field events on Saturday as top finishes from Scott Pauga, Jeff Simpson and Andy Wall on the men's side and Kristen McMurray on the women's side highlighted the Flames' experience at the Elmhurst Intercollegiate Invitational. The women's team placed fourth overall out of 21 teams at the event while the men's squad also placed fourth in a 16-team field. Pauga won the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.96m to finish just ahead of teammate Wall (1.91m). Wall, who also placed second in the 110-meter hurdles (16.21) would take home his own title in the triple jump with a leap of 13.39m. Simpson gave the UIC men's squad its other top finish in the pole vault, going over the bar at 3.81m. McMurray gave the women's team it lone event title, winning the discus with a toss of 35.83m. McMurray would also take fifth in the hammer throw (38.54), coming in just behind teammate Monique Bostert who placed fourth at 39.46m. Sarah Morrison had another strong outing for UIC with a third place finish in the triple jump (10.20m) and a fourth place finish in the long jump (4.63m). Other notable performances for UIC at the Elmhurst Intercollegiate Invite included: a pair of top-ten finishes from Rowsha LaBranche in the 200- and 400-meter dash; a third place standing for Lisa Petty in the 3,000-meter run; a second place finish for Brandon Stoffregen in the 800-meter and a fourth place finish from Phil Morrison in the 400-meter race.
