    Naperville, Ill. - University of Illinois at Chicago junior throwing specialist Nick Gazis captured the discus title and placed second overall in the hammer throw as the Flames placed seventh overall at the Chicagoland Championships, hosted by North Central College, on Saturday afternoon.

    Gazis won the discus with a heave of 163'10" and followed that with a toss of 159'7" in the hammer throw.

    North Central won the overall title with 171 points, followed by Lewis (160), DePaul (95), Carthage (70), Wheaton (56), Chicago (53.5), UIC (39), Olivet Nazarene (38.5), Harper (34), Elmhurst (32), College of DuPage (27), Chicago State (25), North Park (10), Benedictine (5) and Aurora (3).

    The Flames received a pair of fourth-place finishes from both Rich Daubert (1,500-meter run, 3:57.71) and Gabe Rivera (100-meter dash, 11.12).

    Senior jumper Bob Thurnhoffer finished fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 44'11".

    UIC will be back in action this weekend, as they will travel to both the Kansas Relays and the Elmhurst Invitational.
