    Charleston, Ill. - University of Illinois at Chicago junior throwing specialist Nick Gazis broke a 24-year old record in the discus with a first-place heave of 164'9" to lead the men's track and field team to a fifth-place finish in the Big Blue Classic, hosted by Eastern Illinois, on Saturday afternoon.

    Bob Hartmann set the previous record of 162'5" in 1980. Gazis also took home a fourth-place finish in the hammer throw (156'8").

    Eastern Illinois captured the overall title with 260 points, followed by Indiana State (211), UW-Milwaukee (149.5), Marquette (102.5), UIC (45),Western Illinois (19) and Bradley (0).

    Junior sprinter Gabe Rivera turned in a fifth-place mark of 22.69 in the 200-meter dash to round out the top-five finishers for the Flames on Saturday.

    UIC will be back in action this weekend, as they will travel to Naperville, Ill., to participate in the Chicagland Championships, hosted by North Central College.
