Men's Track And Field Places Ninth Overall At Wheaton Invitational

Wheaton, Ill. - Seniors Rich Daubert and Joe Marren each turned in second-place marks to help the University of Illinois at Chicago men's track and field squad to a ninth-place finish at the Wheaton Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

Daubert was a runner-up in the 5,000-meter run (15:29.30), while Marren was second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:01) followed by Steve Jeske (5th, 10:48).

The College of DuPage captured the men's title with 87 points, followed by Wheaton (86), Carthage (72.5), North Central (66), UW-Platteville (53.5), Chicago State (49), UW-Whitewater (44), Harper (41), UIC (40.3), North Park (39.17), University of Chicago (38), Olivet Nazarene (37), Concordia (13), Carroll College (8), Benedictine (6), MSOE (3) and Oakton Community College (2).

Sophomore Nick Gazis turned in a personal-best mark in the discus with a fourth-place heave of 143'11", while the Flames also received a fifth-place finish from the 400-meter relay team (44.7).

UIC will be back in action on April 5th, as they will travel to Naperville, Ill., to participate in the Chicagoland Championships, hosted by North Central College.

"We're looking forward to the Chicagoland Championships and to see how the athletes continue to respond to the competition," UIC head coach Jim Knoedel said.
