Milwaukee, Wis. - Sophomore Whitney Burns took home a pair of top-three finishes as the University of Illinois at Chicago men's track and field squad placed sixth overall at the Horizon League Championships, hosted by UW-Milwaukee, at the Klotsche Center on Sunday afternoon.

Youngstown State captured the men's title with 116 points, followed by Loyola (99 points), Detroit (91), UW-Milwaukee (85), Butler (72) and UIC (55).

"It was nice to see the good number of personal-records this weekend," UIC head coach Jim Knoedel said. "All in all, we competed much better this year and improved in a majority of the events.

"We'll do even better in the outdoor season," Knoedel continued. "This was a very good meet to end the indoor season."

Burns placed second overall in the 800-meter run with a mark of 1:55.20. Burns was also a member of the third-place 4x400 relay squad of Danny Smith, Wilmer Fernandez and Ramon Arrieta that crossed the finish line in 3:26.43.

Senior jump specialist Jon Smith placed third overall in the triple-jump with a season-best mark of 45'4 ½". Junior Kevin Mitchem, in his first meet of the season, placed third in the high jump with a leap of 6'4 ¼".

UIC will be back in action on Saturday, as they will travel to South Bend, Indiana to participate in the Alex Wilson Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame.
