Savegnago Named Outstanding Field Performer As Men's Track & Field Takes Fifth At Horizon League Indoor Championships
March 1, 2009 Greencastle, Ind. - The UIC men's track and field team wrapped up competition at the 2009 Horizon League Indoor Championships on Sunday afternoon with senior Mike Savegnago and junior Andy Wall taking home event titles as the Flames took fifth at the two-day event at DePauw University. Savegnago, who was named the championship's Most Outstanding Field Performer, earned top honors in the heptathlon on Sunday with a point total of 4939. Savegnago had won the pole vault on Saturday with a league championship record mark of 4.90m. Junior Andy Wall also had a stellar outing for UIC on Sunday with a trio of podium finishes. Wall won the triple jump with a leap of 14.07m. He also placed second in the high jump (2.03m) and third in the 60-meter hurdles (8.46). The men's team finished in fifth place with 59 points, 20 points behind Detroit (79) for fourth place. Milwaukee took home the title with 147 points, followed by Youngstown State (98) and Butler (97).
