March 1, 2009

Greencastle, Ind. - Senior Mike Savegnago had another record breaking performance to highlight the UIC men's track and field team's first day of competition at the 2009 Horizon League Indoor Championships at DePauw University.

Savegnago claimed his third straight indoor pole vault title on Saturday with a league championship and school record mark of 4.90m.

He would also go on to position himself well in the heptathlon, taking first in two of the first four (60-meter dash, shot put) events. He will vie for the title on Sunday with three more events on tap.

As a team, UIC finds itself in fifth place with 18 points, trailing favorite Milwaukee, which owns 44 points, heading into day two.
