Ann Arbor, Mich. - Individual event titles by sophomore Mike Savegnago and junior Idara Essien highlighted the UIC track and field team's efforts over the weekend at the 2007 Horizon League Indoor Championships.

Savegnago took home the crown in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 4.50m. Essien defended her title in the triple jump with a leap of 11.81m.

Overall, both the men's and women's team finished fifth at the two-day event. The men's squad totaled 71 points while the women's squad recorded 35. UW-Milwaukee took home top honors on both the men's and women's side at the league championships.

The men's team had other notable finishes with Scott Pauga taking second in the high jump (1.92m). Brandon Stoffregen (800m, 1:58.86) and Joseph Mbari (5,000m, 15:01.53) also notched third-place finishes for the Flames.

On the women's side, senior Rowsha LaBranche placed third in the 400-meter dash in 59.58 while Korinne Krych took third in the 1,000-meter race in 3:05.37.
