Feb. 20, 2011
MILWAUKEE - The UIC men's and women's track and field teams combined for eight event titles at the Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panther Tune-Up Friday, their final action before the Indoor Horizon League Championships next weekend.
"It was a strong team effort; we put in our last races in preparation for the Horizon League meet," said head coach Jim Knoedel. Kellie Schuh starred for the women, winning the pole vault and producing a career best in the triple jump to also win that event.
"The men's middle distance crew performed really well, and Nate Kamm turned in a personal best on the pole vault to place third. Results proved today that we are prepared for a big showing at the Horizon League Championships."
On the women's side, the Flames captured a win in the 4x400 Meter Relay, and cleaned up in the field events, recording first-place finishes in the pole vault, triple jump and weight throw. UIC's relay team crossed the line in a time of 4:11.13, out-pacing second-place Loyola.
Kellie Schuh leaped 3.80 meters in the pole vault, and jumped 11.86 meters in the triple jump. In the weight throw event, Alexandria Warner recorded a toss of 16.13 meters, convincingly out-throwing Nancy Harmon from Milwaukee (15.45 meters).
The men's team also picked up a win in the 4x400 Meter Relay, crossing the finishing line in a time of 3:25.95, more than 21 seconds ahead of Bradley. The Flames also dominated the distance events, finishing first-second in the 800 Meter Run, and first-second-third in the 1-Mile Run. Tyler Hinckley (1:55.47) captured the individual title in the 800 Meter, while Angelos Karkalis was the top-finisher in the 1-Mile race. Josh Stanner captured medalist honors in the 200-Meter Run.
Both the men's and women's teams will head to the Indoor Track and Field Horizon League Championships next weekend (Feb. 26-27) in Geneva, Ohio.
