Daubert and Marren Are Miles Ahead Of The Competition
Feb. 12, 2001 Indianapolis, Ind. - UIC head coach Jim Knoedel believes that two of his runners are heading in the right direction. Sophomores Rich Daubert and Joe Marren both turned in season-bests on the 1-mile run. Daubert finished 23rd with a time of 4:20.21 followed by Marren (4:20. 42). "I'm impressed with both of their improvements," Knoedel said. "They're setting themselves up to place in the MCC in the mile run or the 3,000-meter run." Senior Neto Alexander placed 10th overall in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.96. Knoedel also received a school-record from junior Monieka Thompson. Thompson broke her school-record time of 2:14.38 in the 800-meter run with a ninth-place finish of 2:12.38 at the Cannon IV Classic hosted by Butler on Saturday. That mark would also narrowly edged Thompson's record-time of 2:12.44 in the 800-meter outdoor run. "By far, Monieka Thompson was the best performance," UIC head coach Jim Knoedel said. "It was very exciting. "She just continues to run very well." The Flames also received season-bests from freshman Jenni Goebel (10:44.34, 3,000-meter run) and senior Chris Stanley (1:57.19, 800-meter run).
UIC will return to action this weekend as they will participate in the Chicagoland Championships at Lewis University.
