    Romeoville, Ill. - Junior jumper Bob Thurnhoffer turned in a pair of first-place finishes to help lift the University of Illinois at Chicago men's track and field squad at the Lewis Qualifier on Saturday afternoon.

    Thurnhoffer won the long jump with a leap of 20'7 ?" and followed that up with a first-place mark of 44'3 ?" in the triple jump.

    The Flames also received a first-place finish from junior weight specialist Nick Gazis in the weight throw (44'8 ?"), followed with a runner-up mark of 44'0" by sophomore Pat Redden. Gazis also placed third in the shot put with a toss of 45' 3 ?."

    "Overall it was a pretty good meet and I was excited by the performances," UIC Head Coach Jim Knoedel said. "I'm glad to see that we're getting better and ready for the Horizon League meet."

    UIC will be back in action next weekend, as they will travel to Ames, Iowa to participate in the Iowa State Classic on Friday and Saturday, as well as participating in the Lewis Invitational on Friday night.
