Kenosha, Wis. - Sophomore Alex Sutphen recorded his second individual event title this season, taking top honors in the 5,000-meter race to highlight the UIC men's track and field team's effort at the Tadd Metzger Invitational hosted by Carthage College on Saturday.

Sutphen, who won the 3,000-meter race at the Redbird Invite two weeks ago, edged out teammate Jim Sulzberger for first place with a time of 15:27.14. Sulzberger crossed the line in 15:34.12.

The Flames recorded four other top-three finishes at the Tadd Metzger Invitational.

Sophomore Mike Savegnago took second in the pole vault, clearing a personal-best 4.57m. Freshman Scott Pauga placed third in the high jump (1.92m).

Rookie Brandon Stoffregen finished third in the 600-meter race (1:24.07) and junior Jorge Flores crossed the line in third in the 1,000-meter event (2:42.81).

As a team, UIC placed fourth at the event, finishing behind UW-Stevens Point, Marquette and host Carthage.

The Flames will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 10 at the Lewis Invitational in Romeoville, Ill.
