Sutphen's Title Highlights Men's Track & Field's Day At Tadd Metzger Invitational

Kenosha, Wis. - Sophomore Alex Sutphen recorded his second individual event title this season, taking top honors in the 5,000-meter race to highlight the UIC men's track and field team's effort at the Tadd Metzger Invitational hosted by Carthage College on Saturday. Sutphen, who won the 3,000-meter race at the Redbird Invite two weeks ago, edged out teammate Jim Sulzberger for first place with a time of 15:27.14. Sulzberger crossed the line in 15:34.12. The Flames recorded four other top-three finishes at the Tadd Metzger Invitational. Sophomore Mike Savegnago took second in the pole vault, clearing a personal-best 4.57m. Freshman Scott Pauga placed third in the high jump (1.92m). Rookie Brandon Stoffregen finished third in the 600-meter race (1:24.07) and junior Jorge Flores crossed the line in third in the 1,000-meter event (2:42.81). As a team, UIC placed fourth at the event, finishing behind UW-Stevens Point, Marquette and host Carthage. The Flames will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 10 at the Lewis Invitational in Romeoville, Ill.
