Indianapolis, Indiana - The Smith-Barney Indoor Track and Field Invitational hosted by Butler provided UIC coach Jim Knoedel an opportunity to see how his squad's stack up against some of the best competition in the Midwest.

What he found out was that his teams could provide some pretty stiff competition as well.

"We were against very good competition and the athletes did a very nice job," Knoedel said. "This will prepare us for conference down the road."

Senior Neto Alexander set a school-record in the 60-meter dash as he raced to a 4th-place finish of 6.92. Alexander broke his own record of 6.94 that he set at the Alex Wilson Invitational at Notre Dame last year. He also placed 8th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.22. Teammate Jon White added a fourth-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 42' 1 ¼" feet.

Senior Chris Stanley turned in a solid performance in the 800-meter run (1:57.32) while sophomores Joe Marren (4:23.19) and Rich Daubert finished 13th and 18th respectively in the mile run.

Junior Monieka Thompson was the top performer for the women's team as she placed fourth overall in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:15.21. She was followed by freshman Kim Brown (29th, 2:31.63).

Freshman Latrice Ivy placed 15th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.52.

UIC will be back in action on Saturday, as they will travel to Bloomington, Illinois to participate in the Illinois State Redbird Open at 11:00 A.M.
