Charleston, Ill. - Sophomore Whitney Burns exploded from the pack with two laps remaining and earned the victory in the 800-meter run on Saturday afternoon with a time of 1:56.54 at the EIU Mega Meet.

"Whitney is showing potential for great times and top finishes at the Horizon League championships," UIC head coach Jim Knoedel said.

The men's team also received fourth place finishes from freshman Steve Jeske (1,000-meter run, 2:44.68), senior Rich Daubert (3,000-meter run, 9:02.63) and the Distance Medley Relay (11:20.91).

"We're continuing to improve and getting more and more people turning in marks that could place at the Horizon League championships," Knoedel said. "Before long, hopefully everyone can feel like that they can contribute to the conference meet."

UIC will be back in action this Saturday, as they will travel to Ohio to participate in the Kent State Invitational at 9:00 a.m.
