Redbird Invitational Complete Results in PDF Format Get Acrobat Reader

Normal, Ill. - The UIC men's and women's track and field teams opened up their indoor season inside Horton Field House at the Redbird Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

The men's squad was highlighted by three different athletes taking event titles.

Junior Mike Savegnago took home the pole vault title with a personal-best mark of 4.88m.

Sophomore Andy Wall won the triple jump crown and set a personal-best leap of 13.54m.

Newcomer Steve Royal also took home a first place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:59.59.

Other notables for the men included a second place weight throw finish for senior Joe Bailey (16.54m) and a third place finish for freshman Erik Perez in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:00.21.

Highlighting the women's team were second place finishes and career-bests for sophomore Monique Bostert in the weight throw (15.02m) and senior Idara Essien in the long jump (5.06m).

Junior Danyelle Somerfield also finished the day off with a fourth place finish in the 800-meter run (2:28.67), while freshman Emily Hubbell placed fifth in the high jump with a leap of 1.43m.

The Flames' next meet will take place on Saturday, Jan. 26 at the Wisconsin Invitational in Madison, Wis.
