Men's Track and Field Opens Indoor Season At Chicago Pentangular

Chicago, Ill. - University of Illinois at Chicago senior Joe Marren narrowly edged teammate Rich Daubert for the 1-mile run title at the Chicago Pentangular, hosted by the University of Chicago on Saturday afternoon. Marren crossed the finish line in 4:23.16, followed by Daubert at 4:23.91. Sophomore Jeff Simpson also picked up a victory in the season-opener, with a winning pole vault of 12' 2 ¼". Junior transfer Gabe Rivera was impressive in his UIC debut, finishing second in the 55-meter dash (6.56), while teammate Nick Gazis rounded out UIC's top finishes with a third-place heave of 45' 6 ½" in the weight throw.
UIC will be back in action on January 24th, as they will travel to Charleston, Ill., to participate in the Eastern Illinois Invitational at 9:00 a.m.
