Outdoor 2011: Placed 13th in the 1,500 meter run at the Cougar Invitational (4/21/11) ... took 16th in the 5,000 meter run at the Horizon League Outdoor Championships (5/06/11-5/07-11). Indoor 2011: Placed 15th in the 5,000 meter run at the Horizon League Indoor Championships (2/26/11-2/27/11) ... finished 16th in the 3,000 meter at the North Central Invitational (1/21/11). AS A SOPHOMORE (2008): Had the third-best marks on the UIC squad in all three cross country races...took seventh at the DePaul Opener in the 4-mile run...improved his career-best times in both the 8,000-meter (26:06) and 4-mile (21:15) runs during the cross country season...improved his career mark in the 3,000-meter indoor run by more than 17 seconds with a time of 9:00.46 at the University of Chicago Duals Jan. 31...during outdoor season, improved his career best 1,500-meter time with a 4:13.05 mark Apr. 4 at the Elmhurst Invitational. AS A FRESHMAN (2007): Ran a season-best 8,000-meter run with a time of 26:38 at the Illinois Intercollegiate Invitational on Sept. 14...during the indoor season, posted a personal-best time of 9:17.99 in the 3,000-meter run at the Dick Pond Invitational on Feb. 9...finished fourth in the 1,500-meter run (4:15.48) at the Marquette Invitational on April 26...placed eighth overall in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:57.19 at the Iowa Invitational on April 19...turned in a ninth-place finish with a season-best time of 15:35.07 in the 5,000-meter run at the Horizon League Outdoor Championships on May 9. PREP AND PERSONAL: Earned four letters each in cross country and track and field at Quigley Prep (Ill.) ... also lettered in basketball once ... cross country squad was three-time Chicago Catholic League champions and won a regional title in 2006 ... four-time state qualifier ... two-time all-state honoree ... team captain and MVP in cross country thrice, in track another three times and in basketball once ... four-times all-conference honoree in cross country and track ... placed 9th and 20th in the state ... only sectional champion in Quigley Prep history ... two-time sectional champion in track in the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter ... state runner-up in the 1,600-meter ... set six records at Quigley, including most individual state appearances with six ... born January 18, 1989, in Chicago, Ill. ... son of Maria Castillo ... has one brother, Victor ... currently enrolled as a elementary education major.
