Volunteer Assistant Coach, Pole Vault
Former UIC standout Joe Kepinski enters his sixth season as an assistant coach with the UIC track and field teams, working with the squad's pole vaulters.
Under Kepinski's teaching, UIC has become an annual contender for the event title at both the Horizon League Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Last season, Kepinski's athletes re-wrote the UIC pole vault record books. Mike Savegnago capped his career by re-setting his own school record height in taking his third-consecutive pole vault title at the Horizon League Indoor Championships. Newcomer Kellie Schuh also leaped to new heights in the pole vault for UIC in 2009, setting new school records during both the indoor and outdoor seasons.
As UIC's only pole vaulter for four years, Kepinski took second at the conference indoor and outdoor championships in every year he competed. The Wadsworth, Ill., native graduated from UIC with a bachelor's degree in management and marketing in 2003.
