Sept. 25, 2002

Chicago, Ill. - University of Illinois at Chicago senior tennis standout Nick Bodmer (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) scripted another chapter in his outstanding UIC tennis career this past weekend, and for his efforts he was named the Horizon League Tennis Athlete of the Week.

Bodmer made history on Friday in his first match at the Western Illinois Singles Tournament, beating Dave Fuhrig of Quincy, 8-2, to notch his 50th career singles win, making him the only athlete in UIC annals to top the 50-win plateau and the all-time singles victory leader.

Bodmer surpassed the 49-win mark established by former UIC great Scott Davies, who played from 1996-1999.

The 50th win was just the start for Bodmer at Western, as he won four more matches to go 5-1 on the weekend to take second-place in Flight A.

Head coach Hans Neufeld will look to Bodmer to lead his team once again this weekend, as the Flames are back on serve at the Marquette Tournament in Milwaukee, Wis.
