Chicago, Ill. - University of Illinois at Chicago's Vijay Krishnamoorthy, a member of the Flames' men's tennis program, has earned a spot on the 2000 GTE Academic All-District V Team it was released earlier today.

Krishnamoorthy, a senior who owns a 3.99 GPA in Biological Sciences, joins nine other student-athletes who will represent the district on the national ballot for the Academic All-America Team.

Earlier this spring, he was named UIC's 2000 Men's Tennis Student-Athlete of the Year and was an Avery Brundage Scholarship winner, which is given to students who portray both academic and athletic excellence.

A walk-on, Krishnamoorthy earned a spot in the Flames' regular rotation this season, competing mostly in the No. 6 singles position.
