CHICAGO - The UIC men's tennis team (4-12, 0-2 HL) gets set to challenge Detroit in a Horizon League match at the Flames Outdoor Tennis Courts Saturday, just three days after taking on No. 65 SMU. On April 3, UIC took on SMU at the Hinsdale Racquet Club in Hinsdale, Ill., where the Flames fell 6-1. Alan Reifer captured the lone win with a three-set victory in singles, as the Mustangs took doubles and five singles matches.
Enduring tough doubles pairings, Alexander Raa and Isaac Lloveras dropped their match, 8-5, at No. 1, Refier and Oroskar went down, 8-2, at No. 2 and Christopher Cole and Rahul Kamath were bested at No. 3, 8-6.
In singles, Reifer pulled away from SMU's Pablo Perez-Esnaola to take a 7-6 (4), 1-6, 11-9 win at No. 2 to lead the Flames, as all other matches were lost in straight-set finals.
Prior to last season's 4-3 defeat, UIC had taken three-consecutive wins over Detroit. The Titans head into Saturday's match with a 4-11 record and are 0-3 in the Horizon League after losing their last three matches to Youngstown State, Cleveland State and Wright State. Detroit is scheduled to face Valparaiso Sunday.
