CHICAGO- The UIC men’s tennis team (3-4) looks to improve their win streak to four when they face Northwestern on Sunday at the Lakeside Athletic Facilities in Evanston, Ill. Competition begins at 7:30 p.m. (CT).
The Flames last competition came on March 2, when they defeated the Bradley Braves, 4-3, at the Clubs at River City-North.
Alexander Raa produced a great singles effort when he downed Hamish Weerasinghe, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1. At No. 2, Alan Reifer was defeated by Arthur Romanet, 6-1, 6-1. Carl Hedstrom was unable to come out on top against Nico Rakitin at No. 3 with a final score of 7-5, 6-4.
Isaac Lloveras downed Daniel Tiboldi at No. 4, 6-2, 6-7 (2-7), 7-6 (7-4). At No. 5, Christopher Cole faced off against Ashton Kalhorn, but fell in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. Eric Pontow competed in the No. 6 position, finishing strong over Dan Rodefeld, 6-4, 6-2.
Maurizio Feoli and Hedstrom paired up to face Rakitin and Weerasinghe at No. 1, winning 8-3. In the No. 2 position, Lloveras and Reifer defeated Justin Abrams and Romanet, 9-7. Nate Campanile and Raa joined at No. 3 to face Kalhorn and Tiboldi, but their match went unfinished.
Northwestern is 10-6 so far this season, with a 12:00 p.m. match against Indiana on Sunday prior to the Flames competition. UIC and the Wildcats faced off last season, when the Flames fell 4-0.
