    KALAMAZOO, Mich. - UIC men's tennis competed in the 2009 Vredevelt Invitational on Oct. 30-Nov. 1 in Kalamazoo, Mich.

    Nate Kirk placed fourth in the White Flight Bracket. Kirk defeated Western Michigan's Tommy Calderone in two sets in the opening round, 6-4, 7-6 (4). Kirk lost a hard fought battle in the next round to Michael Basha of WMU in two sets, 7-6 (7), 6-2.

    In doubles play, the Flames' team of Kirk and Sebastian Lystad defeated the Broncos' team of Simon Blomberg and Brad Noel, 8-5. In the second round Kirk and Lystad were eliminated in a close match by DePaul's team of Bartosz Jozwiak and Ben Hartman, 9-8 (5).

    UIC tennis will return in the spring when they travel to DePaul on Jan. 16.
