EAST LANSING, Mich. – The UIC men’s tennis team concluded its fall schedule as competition wrapped at the USTA/ITA Midwest Regional.  Junior Alan Reifer garnered a 2-1 record through the singles qualifier draw and went on to compete in the main draw.

Beginning play in the qualifying round, Reifer, Rahul Kamath, Maurizio Feoli, Isaac Lloveras-Bernat and Alexander Raa were all faced with tough competition.  Reifer was able to come away with two straight wins, taking down Detroit’s Mike Basha (6-4, 6-2) and Youngstown State’s Sebastian Hagn (6-3, 7-5).  In his final match in qualifiers, Reifer was edged by DePaul’s Sten Levsink in a 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) final.

Trying to make it to the next round, Kamath dropped his match to Western Michigan’s Aaron Wong (6-0, 6-2), while Feoli fell in a 6-3, 6-1 final to Green Bay’s Craig Cox.  Feoli split a pair of matches in the consolation round, overcoming Toledo’s Ben Brocker (6-1, 7-5) after falling to Cleveland State’s Mario Noboa in three, 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (8).

Lloveras-Bernat and Raa pushed each of their matches to three sets.  Lloveras-Bernat captured the first over Youngstown State’s Rodrigo Campos, before falling 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.  Raa came back in the second and put up a fight in the third to Toledo’s Francisco Stuardo, but went down 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (4).

Reifer made it to competition in the main draw, but could not pass Michigan’s Will Davis after a 6-1, 7-6 (2) final.

The Flames were unable to make it past the first round in doubles.  With 8-3 finals, Feoli and Reifer fell to Cleveland State’s Jorg Van der Volet and Jay Jones, as Raa and Kamath were bested by Michigan’s Barrett Franks and Vlad Stefan.  Despite the end result, Christopher Cole and Lloveras-Bernat battled Illinois’ Julian Childers and Ross Guignon to a 9-8 (7-4) final.

UIC breaks for the remainder of the year and returns to competition in January to begin its regular season.
