Men's Tennis Downs Chicago State, 5-2, In First Dual Match Of Season

Chicago, Ill.- The University of Illinois at Chicago men's tennis team played their first dual match of the season on Saturday, looking sharp in a 5-2 win over Chicago State at the UIC Outdoor Courts. UIC (1-0) swept the doubles point and took four of six singles bouts to defeat the city rival Cougars (0-1). The Flames won their doubles matches by a combined 24-7 score, thanks to two 8-1 wins by the top two doubles duos. Ivan Kovalev made his UIC dual match debut at No. 1 singles, and he didn't disappoint. Kovalev downed Prakoso Immanuel in an impressive straight sets victory, 6-0, 6-3. Andy Lockhart also made a stellar dual match debut, defeating Brett Thompson at the No. 3 spot, 6-0, 6-2. Sean Kreymborg and Eric Fey notched strong singles wins. UIC returns to action on October 16th for the Marquette Invitational in Milwaukee, Wis. UIC 5, Chicago State 2
