Men's Tennis Defeats Detroit To Advance To Horizon League Tournament Semifinals

INDIANAPOLIS - The UIC men's tennis team opened up the Horizon League tournament with a 4-0 sweep of Detroit on Friday afternoon, advancing to Saturday's semifinals against Butler. The second-seeded Flames (12-7) claimed the doubles point off of victories at the first and third positions. Sebastian Lystad and George Hudson defeated Pjotrs Necajevs and Dustin Goldenberg at No. 1, 8-6, while Dave Robare and Nathan Kirk downed David Stabley and Nick Tolomei, 8-2 at No. 3 to move the match to singles play. Straight-set victories from Bastian Harbo, Adriano Liccardo and Kirk would seal the match in the Flames' favor, moving the squad on to the semifinals. The Flames will meet up with the Bulldogs on Saturday at 10:30 a.m for the right to advance to Sunday's championships. UIC defeated Butler, 5-2, when they met earlier this season. Doubles
