Men's Tennis Blanks Cleveland State 7-0 In MCC Opener

Valparaiso, Ind. - The men's tennis team opened up its Midwestern Collegiate Conference season with a 7-0 whitewashing of Cleveland State at Valparaiso University on Saturday. "It was a good effort by the guys," men's tennis coach Chuck Cunningham said. "Cleveland State was simply outmanned, the match was never in doubt. "The guys kept their focus and took care of business." In singles action, Jon Schmidt (No. 1), Nesar Nayak (No. 3), Amol Desai (No. 5) and Omar Husain (No. 6) each blanked their opponents 6-0, 6-0. Sophomore Nick Bodmer earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory over James Koorey at No. 2 singles while teammate Wade Clark picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win over Patrick Leitner at No. 4 singles. Nayak and Schmidt teamed up at No. 1 singles for an 8-2 triumph over Leitner and Franco Gallo. Clark and Desai cruised past Koorey and Adam Mercurio for an 8-3 win while Bodmer and Angel Ochoa trounced Jeffrey Sutyak and John Ostroske, 8-0. UIC (6-14) will return home on Tuesday, as they will host Northern Illinois at the UIC Outdoor Courts at 3 PM. UIC 7, Cleveland State 0 Singles No. 1 Jon Schmidt (UIC) d.
