Men's Tennis Picks Up Conference Win At Detroit

DETRIOT, Mich.-The UIC men’s tennis team (4-9, 1-3 HL) defeated Detroit on Sunday 5-2 at the Franklin Athletic Club.

"We came out with good energy in singles to take control of the momentum and close strong with a third set victory by Alan Reifer," stated head coach Hans Neufeld. "We also had a great team effort today in doubles competition."

In singles competition, Alexander Raa competed in the No. 1 position, but fell to Bobby Cawood, 6-3, 6-1. Alan Reifer defeated Patryk Koscielski at No. 2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. Isaac Lloveras downed Jay Joshi at No. 3, 6-3, 6-4. Carl Hedstrom pushed his No. 4 match with Rafael Orantes to three, but was unable to come out on top (4-6, 6-0, 10-3). Maurizio Feoli dominated his No. 5 match against Ismail Kadyrov, 6-4, 6-3. In the No. 6 slot, Christopher Cole came out on top against Chance Conley, 6-2, 6-1.

Raa and Lloveras teamed up in the No. 2 spot to down Joshi and Kadyrov, 8-5. Reifer and Cole held strong in the No. 3 position downing Cawood and Matt White, 8-1. The No. 1 match with Feoli and Hedstrom competing against Orantes and Koscielski went unfinished.

The Flames return to competition Friday to face another Horizon League foe, Cleveland State. Matches start at 1:30 p.m. (CT) at the Flames Outdoor Tennis Courts.
