Men's Tennis Falls To Wright State

CHICAGO- The UIC men’s tennis team (3-7) welcomed Horizon League foe, Wright State, Sunday at the Flames Outdoor Tennis Courts. The Flames fell to the Raiders 6-1.

“[Alexander] Raa and [Isaac] Lloveras played solid at second doubles,” stated head coach Hans Neufeld.

“We had a good week of practice to adjust to playing outside and getting more consistent.”

Alexander Raa pushed his No. 1 singles match to three, but ultimately fell to Dan Gilbert, 3-6, 6-4, 10-3. Isaac Lloveras fell in straight sets at No. 2 to Hayden Joblin, 6-0, 7-6. Carl Hedstrom was defeated in the No. 3 position by Lauri Makikalli, 6-1, 6-3. Christopher Cole faced off against Ricardo Pineda at No. 4, but was defeated 6-1, 6-4. Maurizio Feoli took the only singles win of the day at No. 5 against Marc Sodini, 6-0, 6-0. Eric Pontow dropped his No. 6 match to Michal Lyzwa, 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles competition, Raa and Lloveras teamed up to down Makikalli and Lyzwa at No. 2, 8-3. In the No. 1 spot, Hedstrom and Feoli fell to Joblin and Pineda, 8-4. Pontow and Nate Campanile were unable to come out on top in their No. 3 match with Gilbert and Myles Harris, falling 8-5.

The Flames travel to Green Bay, Wisc. Sunday, April 6 for a conference match against the Phoenix. Competition is set to get underway at 10 a.m. (CT)
