Chicago, Ill. - The men's tennis team pushed Indianapolis to the limit but dropped a 5-2 decision at the UIC Outdoor Courts on Wednesday.

"Indianapolis just played better," UIC men's tennis coach Chuck Cunningham said. "We knew it would be close.

"The guys worked their hearts out, but we lost some really close matches today."

Sophomore Nick Bodmer led the way for the Flames on Wednesday as he recorded a pair of victories.

Bodmer recorded the lone victory in singles action for UIC as he defeated Marko Saulovic, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3 singles. He later teamed up with classmate Angel Ochoa for a 8-4 victory over Indianapolis' Ryan Stickley and Brandon Cook at No. 3 doubles.

The Flames clinched the doubles point when senior Jason Kerr and junior Wade Clark downed Saulovic and Justin Brown with an 8-4 triumph at No. 2.

Indianapolis' lone victory in doubles action came at No. 1 as RB Hervey and Ryan Van Donselaar earned a 8-3 win over UIC's Nesar Nayak and Jon Schmidt.

Schmidt received the same fortune at No. 1 singles as Hervey garnered a 6-2, 6-4 win. Clark also received the same fate at No. 4 singles as he fell 6-2, 6-4 to Stickley.

Indianapolis then squeaked out the final three matches to earn the victory.

Von Donselaar edged Nayak 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Brown squeaked past Kerr with a 7-5, 7-6 win at No. 5 singles. Freshman Omar Husain also came up short at No. 6 singles as Bob Vuletic earned a 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 win.

"This was a really good effort on the part of the guys," Cunnigham said. "They'll bounce back."
