Men's Tennis Falls At Valparaiso

VALPARAISO, Ind.- The UIC men’s tennis team (3-6) put up a fight Saturday while facing the Crusaders at the Valparaiso University Tennis Complex, but ultimately fell 7-0.

In singles competition, Alexander Raa competed in the No. 1 position, but fell to Jeffrey Schorsch, 6-3, 6-2. Despite his best effort in the No. 2 spot, Alan Reifer dropped to Dave Bacalla 6-0, 6-4. Carl Hedstrom competed at No. 3 but was unable to come out on top against Michael Savaglio (6-3, 6-4). Isaac Lloveras took his No. 4 match with Eric Honert to three, falling 3-6, 6-3, 10-4. Maurizio Feoli was defeated by Kyle Dunn at No. 5, 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-0). At No. 6, Eric Pontow lost to Charlie Emhardt, 6-2, 7-5.

The Flames were unable to come away with a doubles win with Reifer and Lloveras dropping their No. 2 match with Schorsch and Emhardt, 8-4. Raa and Nate Campanile teamed up to face Honert and Lucas Waak, but fell in the No. 3 spot, 8-3. The No. 1 match with Hedstrom and Feoli facing off against Bacalla and Daniel Oakes went unfinished.

The Flames head to Dallas, Texas March 24-28 for their Spring Break Trip. UIC returns to competition against Horizon League Foe Wright State on Sunday, March 30 at the Hinsdale Racquet Club. Matches begin at 1:30 p.m. (CT).
