Men's Tennis Downed At Butler, 5-2
March 14, 2005
Indianapolis, Ind.- The University of Illinois at Chicago men's tennis team couldn't hold an early lead against defending Horizon League champion Butler as the Flames fell on the road to the Bulldogs, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon. UIC (5-6, 1-1 Horizon League) took an early one-point lead by snatching the doubles point with spirited play by all three Flames pairs. The team of Ivan Kovalev and Andy Lockhart took the No. 1 doubles win, while Paul Glendenning and Eric Fey won the No. 3 match to give UIC the advantage. Even in defeat, the doubles pair of Karol Zarucki and Sean Kreymborg looked good in a naroow 8-6 defeat to James Low and Parker Ross. But the singles side didn't go as well. Kovalev grabbed the No. 1 singles win over Low with a comeback 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(4) victory for the Flames' only point from singles action.
