Hinsdale, Ill.- The University of Illinois at Chicago men's tennis team broke out of an eight-match losing streak on Saturday, downing Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, 5-2, at the Hinsdale Racket Courts.
It was the first win of the spring for the Flames (2-8), who last won a dual match on October 8th against Chicago State. Saturday's victory also marked UIC's first home win of the season.
The young Flames have been making strides the entire season, and Saturday's win proved to be a breakthrough performance.
Freshman Artsem Burmistrau led the way with a No.1 singles win against IUPUI senior Brian Slack, 6-0, 6-3. Burmistrau also helped UIC to its second straight doubles point win, teaming with Karol Zarucki to earn an 8-4 win over Slack and Ross Gehlhausen.
Paul Glendenning gave the Flames some breathing room with his outstanding 6-1, 6-4 win against Jaguars senior Ken Rachon.
The Flames open their Horizon League schedule against Youngstown State in Youngstown, Ohio on Saturday, March 13th beginning at 6 p.m.
