Southern Illinois Defeats Men's Tennis, 5-2
March 6, 2005
Hinsdale, Ill.- Sometimes an extended break can help a team rest. Sometimes such a break can give a team some rust.
Unfortunately for the UIC men's tennis team, who hadn't played since February 12th, the latter seemed more appropriate to describe their performance on Saturday night.
The Flames fell behind early in a close doubles frame and were unable to bounce back in singles play, as visiting Southern Illinois downed UIC, 5-2, at the Hinsdale Racquet Club late Saturday.
Paul Glendenning also turned in a fine showing, winning his singles bout over Tomas Gonzalez with a strong 7-6(5), 6-4 win.
But the Flames were unable to squeeze out a close doubles point and fell 4-2 on the singles side to the Salukis (4-5).
It was UIC's first match since February 12th after IUPUI canceled the teams' scheduled February 19th match.
UIC is back in action next Sunday against Horizon League rival Butler in Indianapolis, Ind., at noon.
