Men's Tennis Earns First Win Of The Season
Feb. 5, 2000 Homewood, Ill. - Rebounding from a morning loss to Xavier, the UIC men's tennis team jumped out to a 3-0 lead on Western Illinois and held on for a 5-2 victory.
The Flames opened the match by taking the doubles point as the tandems of Karl Morgan and Nick Bodmer (8-5), and Jason Kerr and Bill Schmidt (8-2) notched doubles wins.
Bodmer and Morgan then turned right around and recorded straight sets singles victories to put UIC up 3-0.
The match was still in question, though, after the Leathernecks climbed back to 3-2 with victories in the No. 3 and No. 4 singles contests.
Senior Vijay Krishnamoorthy gave the Flames the fourth and decisive point with a 6-0, 6-1, win in the No. 6 singles match. Angel Ochoa gave UIC its fifth win with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph at the No. 5 singles position.
