Men's Tennis Drops Home Opener
Feb. 5, 2000 Homewood, Ill. - Xavier spoiled UIC's first home match of the season, downing the Flames, 6-1, Saturday morning at the Homewood-Flossmoor Racquet Club. Freshman Karl Morgan tallied UIC's lone win with a 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 victory over Xavier's Rob Bakker. Morgan is now a team-best 11-5 in singles play this season. Under an experimental format, a match tie-breaker is now played in lieu of a third set. The first player to reach 10 points by a margin of two wins the match. While this rule proved advantageous to Morgan, Jason Kerr and Angel Ochoa both came up on the short end of their third set tie-breakers. The Flames, who fell to 0-6 with the loss, have little time to dwell on the loss as they battle Western Illinois this afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
